Dying for a Cuppa
The Masterclass
Death Education from a Human Perspective
Ⓡ

A CPD ACCREDITED Death education from a human perspective; to help and educate us to support the dying, learn all about what dying looks like and how we can try to understand the labour of the dying process.
Supporting individuals and professionals to understand death and dying with greater confidence, compassion and understanding.
Why this matters...
Death is something every one of us will encounter, yet many people tell me they feel unprepared, uncertain or afraid when faced with dying, grief or supporting someone at the end of life.
We live in a society where conversations about death are often avoided, meaning many people reach the end of life, or find themselves supporting someone who is dying, without understanding what to expect or where to turn for guidance.
When we don’t know what we don’t know, fear can fill the gaps. Questions go unanswered, anxiety increases, and opportunities for meaningful conversations and informed choices can be missed.
The good news is that education can make a profound difference. Understanding the dying process, knowing how to communicate, recognising what is normal and having the confidence to ask questions can help us approach death, dying and grief with greater compassion, confidence and humanity.

What you'll learn...
The Dying for a Cuppa® Masterclass is built around four core modules, designed to increase confidence, understanding and compassion when supporting people through death, dying and grief.

Communication
Communication is at the heart of good end-of-life care. In this module, we’ll explore how to have honest, compassionate conversations around death and dying, how to listen with empathy, and how to support individuals and families when emotions and uncertainty are high. Also, w eneed to know WHAT we should be talking about.

Emotions
Death and dying can evoke a wide range of emotions for individuals, families and professionals alike. Together, we’ll explore common emotional responses, the impact of dying, grief, fear and loss, and how greater self-awareness can help us better support others whilst caring for ourselves.

Eating and Drinking
Changes in eating and drinking are often one of the most misunderstood aspects of the dying process. This module explores why these changes occur, what is considered normal, and how greater understanding can help reduce anxiety and provide reassurance for both families and professionals. We look, in detail, about how we support this important part of the dying process.

A Dying Body
Understanding the physical changes that can occur towards the end of life can help reduce fear and increase confidence. In this module, we’ll explore common signs and symptoms, what to expect as the body prepares for death, and how to support individuals and those around them with greater understanding and compassion.

It really was a phenomenal experience.
The way the day held the realities of dying and grief with such care will stay with me.
As a celebrant, I can already see how this will strengthen the way I meet families, especially in those conversations where anger, hurt, or distress about how someone died sits just under the surface.
The Masterclass has given me steadier language and a more compassionate way of holding those moments.
There was plenty of room for reflection, the breaks were well timed and the ending gave enough space to acknowledge what the day had stirred without it feeling heavy. The structure was thoughtful and the calm, steady pace made the day so valuable and accessible.
In-Person Attendee
Your delivery Katie was superb. Exceptional subject knowledge backed up with real life examples / personal experience. Matter of fact, no glossing over things or fluffy talk, but everything was sensitively worded still . Hugely passionate about sharing knowledge and empowering people
You read the room really well, picked up when someone had a point or question - I felt listened to and my opinions valued. Non judgemental - accepted everyone's differing views and acknowledged that we will all have our own opinions/thoughts/beliefs etc.
I would absolutely recommend this course to anyone who is in the industry, or like me, has elderly parents who may well go through a dying process or another loved one who has a terminal diagnosis.
I now feel equipped to give them the best and be able to explain things to other people at the time.
Self-paced, Online Graduate
I really appreciated the course not being a slide show and being able to see you, helped me feel connected whilst being able to refer to the supporting materials.
I also feel like the most valuable sections are the dying process - what to expect with a kind of timeline (I care for someone at end of life and I don't know what to look for as indicators of progression so this has really helped) and the part on food and drink as I have had so many conversations with those who are grieving who feel the care setting has neglected their person because they weren't getting food and drink, I can now help them to understand why and hopefully remove that pain. Thank you
