Faith, spirituality, religion, culture and personal belief can become deeply significant as someone approaches the end of their life.
But supporting those needs isn’t about knowing everything about every religion, faith or tradition.
It’s about having the confidence to ask.
This interactive, thought-provoking training day explores beliefs, practices and customs before, during and after death, alongside the communication skills and cultural awareness needed to provide truly person-centred end-of-life care.
The goal is not perfect knowledge. The goal is respectful curiosity.
No previous knowledge or experience is required. Whether you are supporting others professionally or navigating these conversations personally, this workshop offers a safe, accessible and compassionate learning experience.
Why this matters...
There is no single one right way to die.
For some people, faith will be central to their experience. For others, spirituality, culture, family traditions or personal beliefs may be more important. Some people will have no religious belief at all.
And even two people who identify with the same faith may have completely different wishes.
That’s why assumptions – however well intentioned – can never replace conversation.
Yet professionals can understandably feel nervous about asking questions around religion, faith, spirituality, death and cultural practices.
What if I use the wrong language?
What if I don’t know enough?
What if I cause offence?
What if the person’s wishes conflict with those of their family?
What if I simply don’t know what to do?
This training creates a safe space to explore those questions.
Because culturally sensitive, person-centred end-of-life care isn’t about memorising a list of rules.
It’s about listening, asking, understanding and remaining curious about the individual in front of you.

Culturally Sensitive, Person-Centred Care
Understand how faith, culture, family, community and personal identity can influence someone’s wishes, including practical considerations around ritual, prayer, touch, care of the body and what happens after death.
Navigating Difference & Putting It Into Practice
Explore situations where individual wishes, family beliefs or professional responsibilities may differ, using real-life scenarios, discussion and reflection to help you approach these moments with greater confidence and sensitivity.
